Rice prices in Mandaue City, Cebu, have seen a decrease of P1 to P5 per kilogram across various rice varieties, according to a DAILY TRIBUNE price watch.
Local rice retailer Adelfa Lumapas confirmed on Saturday, 15 February 2025, that the decline is due to lower supply costs, allowing retailers to pass the savings on to consumers. However, she clarified that the price reduction is not linked to the government's Kadiwa ng Pangulo Rice-for-All (RFA) program.
Currently, rice prices at the Mandaue City public market range from P40 to P58 per kilogram, while corn rice is priced between P35 and P45 per kilogram.
According to the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), rice prices under the RFA program are expected to drop by P3 per kilogram. Once adjusted, RFA5 rice will be priced at P43 per kilogram, RFA25 at P35 per kilogram, and RFA100 at P33 per kilogram. At present, RFA5 is sold at P45 per kilogram, RFA25 at P38 per kilogram, and RFA100 at P36 per kilogram.
Meanwhile, the Kadiwa ng Pangulo initiative continues to provide rice at P29 per kilogram for priority groups, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, and indigent individuals.
