Cainta, Rizal municipal administrator Keith Nieto said on Saturday that he had extended assistance to families who were former residents of Cainta but now reside in Taytay, also in this province.
Nieto said these families once lived in an informal settlement at Sitio Malaya, Celso Tuason, Valley Golf, which was owned by a private individual, but they were later evicted after losing a legal battle.
“I visited them even though they are now in another town,” Nieto said.
Nieto said the displaced families did not ask for help from him during the court battle.
“Their officials there were quite firm. They did not seek help from me or the government while they were fighting the case. Then, when the court decision came out and they lost, they had to leave the area,” Nieto said.
“That’s when they thought of coming to me and asking for help regarding where they could relocate. Could you bear to refuse them?” the municipal administrator added.
Nieto said the local government has a property at Sitio Hapay Na Mangga in Barangay Dolores, Taytay, and they donated it to the displaced families.
“I brought them to Hapay Na Mangga. We have a small area there, outside of Cainta, where they can start anew without fear of being evicted again because the land is now theirs — we gave it to them,” Nieto added.
