The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7) on Thursday led and destroyed 41.86 kilos of shabu and 2.5 kilos of marijuana in Cebu City valued at P284,965,915,56.
Part of the illegal drugs were that of 25 kilos seized at Pier 4 in Cebu City on 23 January 2025.
Regional Trial Court Branch 13, Cebu City presided by Judge Mory Nueva conducted an ocular inspection at the PDEA-7 Regional Office on 10 February and took representative samples from the 25 kilos of Shabu.
Then Judge Nueva ordered the immediate destruction of the dangerous drugs and the safekeeping of the representative samples on 11 February.
“The immediate destruction of these confiscated dangerous drugs is not just a legal obligation but a crucible element in the supply reduction aspect of our anti-illegal drug campaign,” said PDEA-7 Regional Director Alex Tablate.
Under the guidelines specified in Section 21 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and in Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation No. 1, Series of 2002, after the filing of the criminal case, the court is mandated to conduct an ovular inspection of the seized dangerous drugs, during which small amounts that will serve as representative samples shall be taken and duly weighed and recorded by the forensic laboratory that conducted the examination of the seized drugs or controlled chemicals for representation as evidence in court.
