Chloe: Yulo, me against the world

Gymnast Carlos Yulo — the greatest Filipino Olympian — walked on the red carpet of the majestic Manila Hotel beaming with pride.

He was about to be feted by the Philippine Sportswriters Association as the Athlete of the Year following his double-gold medal triumph in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Yulo didn’t just have the mints he earned in France. He was also holding firmly the hands of a glowing golden-haired woman in pastel-pink dress who served as his inspiration in attaining an incredible feat.

Chloe San Jose was all smiles as she walked side by side with his beau.

As the saying goes: Behind every successful man is a woman. They are together no matter what — against all odds.

“I feel so loved and cared for. I’m always thankful and grateful that people acknowledge what we accomplished together but obviously, it’s his achievement,” the 22-year-old Filipino-Australian content creator and social media influencer said.

San Jose has always been present in Yulo’s competition and the gymnast never fails to acknowledge his fair-skinned muse in each of his successes.

“I’m just overwhelmed that he’s always thankful and acknowledges my support for him,” San Jose said of his boyfriend of almost four years.

“I really am a sentimental person for the smallest things. So, that’s why maybe it manifested into bigger things.”

But just like other relationships, theirs has faced challenges that even turned into a social media topic, drawing mixed reactions from netizens and has served as gossip fodder for quite some time.

Just like in romantic movies, the Caloy-Chloe love affair is a classic story of “you and me against the world.”

Yulo’s relationship with his mother, Angelica, soured as she didn’t favor his son dating San Jose.

His mother’s disdain for San Jose and accusations against his son was a trending topic during Yulo’s Paris campaign.

Still, the controversies and challenges didn’t tear them apart. It made the couple even stronger.

Their secret: Their deep love, open communication and deep understanding of each other.

“I think we just communicate well with each other and we acknowledge each others’ differences and similarities also so that’s why we’re able to communicate well,” San Jose said before walking away with the love of her life — the country’s greatest Olympian — by her side.
