The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday announced that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed lawyer Noli Pipo as the newest commissioner of the poll body.
Pipo previously served as director of Comelec-Ilocos Region since 2006. He will replace retired Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo.
A career officer, Pipo first served as an election officer in Bangued, Abra, from 1993 to 1996. He then became a provincial election supervisor in Ilocos Norte from 1996 to 2004 and an assistant regional election director until 2006.
This follows the appointment of Maria Norina Tangaro-Casingal, Comelec law department chief, as the new Comelec commissioner, replacing Socorro Inting, who retired earlier this month.
Earlier, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said it would be good if the new commissioners included a woman and a career official.
