The NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) intercepted a shipment containing suspected illegal drugs at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City on Thursday.
According to the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP), the shipment appeared suspicious after X-ray inspection. The Bureau of Customs (BOC) duty inspector flagged it, prompting further examination by NAIA-IADITG.
Authorities found approximately 3,557 grams of dried leaves believed to be high-grade marijuana, or "Kush," inside six abandoned parcels. The drugs, valued at around P4,979,800, were shipped from Thailand and addressed to a local recipient. The shipment contained jars, foil, pouches, and plastic tea bags.
The parcels were turned over to the PDEA National Office in Quezon City for further investigation and follow-up operations.
PNP-AVSEGROUP Director PBGen. Christopher M. Abecia commended airport officials for their swift and effective response, underscoring the importance of interagency cooperation and vigilance in ensuring airport security and public safety.
