BAGUIO CITY — A female student was declared dead-on-arrival at the hospital while her male companion sustained injuries after the motorcycle they were on board was hit by a bus along the National Highway in Barangay Castillo, Echague, Isabela Sunday afternoon.
The fatality was identified as Angelique Kendica, 23, student and a resident of the barangay where the incident happened. Her companion who drives the motorcycle was identified as Ryan Galande, 22, a resident of Barangay District 1, Cauayan City, Isabela.
Police said the two victims were heading to Barangay San Fabian, Echague. The bus driven by John Michael Pascual, a resident of Masaya Centro, San Agustin, Isabela was also traversing the same lane of the road and was also going to the direction of San Fabian.
Accordingly, the driver of the motorcycle cued the driver of the bigger vehicles through the signal light that they were going to the left portion of the road. However, the bus at that moment was about to overtake the motorcycle.
The bus then hit the smaller vehicle. Because of the impact, the two motorcycle riders were thrown at the road pavement. The victims sustained multiple injuries.
Rescuers rushed the victims to the hospital but Kendica did not make it. The bus driver, meanwhile, was taken into police custody waiting for proper disposition.
