The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Monday that it will localize its Adopt-a-School Program to better address regional needs and enhance the delivery of basic education infrastructure, digitalization and accessibility.

DepEd plans to host bilateral meetings with key organizations, streamline donation processes with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority, and expand its pool of collaborators.

“Thank you, partners. You have been instrumental during my first six months at DepEd. Let’s continue working together to accelerate progress,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said during a recent private sector convergence.

DepEd revealed that the public-private partnership for classroom construction will kick off with the development of 15,000 classrooms in the first phase next year, aiming for completion by June 2027. These classrooms will feature modern designs, enhanced learning environments, and resilience to natural disasters.

Regarding digitalization, DepEd's PSIP Connect program will begin procuring digital hardware in May 2025, with delivery expected by mid-2026. Private sector partners also committed to leveraging international connections to ensure the digital tools meet global standards.

Additionally, private partners suggested addressing malnutrition as a priority alongside educational gaps, highlighting it as a critical issue to tackle.
