Three ash emissions were recorded at Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Occidental, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Saturday, January 25.
The emissions occurred between 7:20 AM and 7:45 AM, 8:05 AM and 8:14 AM, and 10:48 AM and 11:15 AM, rising 250 to 850 meters before drifting west and southwest. Light ashfall was also reported in Brgy. Yubo, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
Meanwhile, Kanlaon also recorded 15 volcanic quakes and two ash emissions lasting 29 to 36 minutes, according to Phivolcs’ bulletin issued Saturday, covering the period from 12 AM Friday. The volcano released 3,024 tons of sulfur dioxide, with plumes rising up to 200 meters above the summit crater.
Phivolcs noted in its advisory that the volcano’s edifice remains inflated.
Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3 (magmatic unrest). Residents within a six-kilometer radius of the volcano are urged to evacuate to avoid the risk of sudden explosive eruptions, lava flows, ashfall, pyroclastic density currents, rockfalls, and lahars during heavy rains. Flying aircraft remains prohibited near the volcano.
