The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has apprehended at least 262 trucks since December for various road safety violations, including the use of worn-out tires, following a fatal accident on the Katipunan flyover.
In a statement on Thursday, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the apprehensions were conducted after the December accident, where a truck rammed several vehicles, resulting in four deaths and more than 24 injuries.
To recall, the LTO has intensified its enforcement presence in Metro Manila and other parts of the country, particularly on regular delivery truck routes, as part of a road safety campaign spearheaded by Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista.
This intensified effort includes deploying LTO enforcers between nighttime and early morning, the period when truck bans are typically lifted in urban areas.
