The national women’s squad sustained its momentum after booking a 2-0 victory over Turkmenistan in the AFC Futsal Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers last Wednesday at the Yunusobod Sport Complex in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

After a scoreless draw in the first half, Katrina Guillou gave the Philippines a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute after a tap-in goal.

Seven minutes later, Dionesa Tolentin scored from outside of the penalty area to give the Filipinas a 2-0 lead.

The Philippines opened its campaign last Monday with a 5-1 win over Kuwait followed by a stunning 3-3 draw against host and world No. 18 Uzbekistan last Wednesday.

With a 2-1-0 win-draw-loss record in Group C, the Nationals inch closer to making it to the Futsal Women’s Asian Cup in China set from 7 to 18 May.

The Philippines will be facing Australia on Sunday in the battle of unbeaten teams.

Armed with a 2-0 record, the Australians look to be one of the heavy favorites to advance to the Futsal Women’s Asian Cup.

The Aussies dismantled the Turkmenistanis, 6-1, last Monday before silencing Kuwait, 5-0, last Wednesday.

Only the top two teams per group and the best third-place squad in the qualifiers will make it to the Futsal Women’s Asian Cup

The Philippines is using this competition as preparation for its hosting of the first FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup from 21 November to 7 December.
