BAFTA 2025 nominations: Conclave leads with 12 nods, Emilia Pérez follows with 11

The 2025 BAFTA Awards are almost here, and London’s iconic Royal Festival Hall is gearing up for a night of celebration that promises to be every bit as glitzy and exciting as we’ve come to expect. On 16 February 2025, the best in cinema from the UK and beyond will be recognized in what is sure to be an unforgettable evening.

This year’s awards season has taken some unexpected turns, with wildfires in Los Angeles forcing delays in the nominations and ceremonies for major U.S. awards like the Oscars. While the Golden Globes were able to proceed as scheduled, the BAFTAs will stand as one of the first big events of 2025, setting the tone for what’s to come. It’s been a challenging few months for the industry, but this ceremony offers a glimmer of excitement and celebration — just what the world needs right now.

'Conclave' ultimately feels like a film wrapped in the image of sophistication and intellect but, at its core, is a shallow soap opera.

The Contenders

As for the nominations, it seems like the BAFTAs are shaping up to be a thrilling event. Leading the pack with 12 nominations is Conclave, a gripping religious thriller starring Ralph Fiennes. With its intense subject matter, it’s no surprise that Conclave has garnered such attention. A religious thriller racking up this many nods is definitely a standout, and it has positioned itself as one of the top contenders for the night. Following closely behind is Emilia Pérez, the Golden Globe-winning drama that has earned 11 nominations, setting up what is sure to be a fierce race for the top awards.

Other notable films in the mix include The Brutalist (nine nominations), Dune: Part TwoWicked, and Anora (seven nominations each), while Timothée Chalamet's portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown earned six nominations.

With the Oscars delayed and the industry in a bit of a holding pattern, the 2025 BAFTAs are likely to provide the first major insights into which films and performances could dominate the awards season. Conclave and Emilia Pérez are certainly the films to watch, but with so many different genres in the running, it’s hard to predict who will come out on top.

For now, all eyes are on the 16 February ceremony, which promises to be a night filled with excitement, style, and plenty of surprises.
