Starting today until 2028, certain sections of Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City will be inaccessible to motorists to accommodate the construction of the Tandang Sora station for the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP).
Antonio Aganon Jr., chief engineer of the Shimizu-Fujita-Takenaka-EEI Joint Venture, announced that the road closure will commence at midnight on 12 January and is expected to remain in effect until 2028. He also revealed that the Tandang Sora station is the third to be developed, following the North Avenue and Quirino Highway stations.
The scheduled construction will cause the closure of at least four lanes, and to lessen traffic disruptions, Aganon advised motorists to use alternative routes.
“One option is to turn right, proceed straight to the corner of Visayas Avenue or Tandang Sora, then return to Mindanao Avenue and make another right turn,” he suggested.
“I think the traffic won't be too heavily affected, so our fellow citizens have nothing to worry about, even if this will take a long time, because a diversion road with the same number of lanes as the closed section has been provided,” Artes explained.
According to Aganon, the private contractor's vehicle volume survey shows that the southbound lane of Mindanao Avenue accommodates approximately 100,000 vehicles every day, and the northbound lane handles around 70,000 vehicles.
