The local government of Navotas City appreciated its fishermen during the “Araw ng Mangingisda” festivity, which is part of the city’s week-long 119th Navotas Day celebration.
At least 10 fishermen were honored by the local government, highlighting their milestones and achievements throughout their careers.
One of the honored fishermen is Renato Abad, who was able to support his family of six, with three of them being able to graduate from college through his modest livelihood.
Abad was also able to create a local cooperative group in Navotas City.
In a statement, Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco said that the celebration helps to shape the role of the fishermen, which is one of the identities of Navotas City.
The outstanding fishermen that made it to the list will receive cash prizes ranging from P4,000 to P10,000, along with grocery incentives. Additionally, they will be able to nominate a member for the NavotaAs Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda Scholarship.
