TV host-comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto is now free after posting bail at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday for 14 counts of violation of Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code. These charges were filed by investors against the skincare company Dermacare.
Upon arriving in the Philippines from the United States on Wednesday, 8 January, Quinto was escorted to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and later turned over to the NBI due to an Alert List Order connected to her warrants of arrest.
Quinto and her legal team initially attempted to process her bail that same afternoon but was unable to complete the procedure, requiring her to stay overnight at the NBI office.
On Thursday, 9 January, she successfully processed her bail, paying a total of P1.7 million, with each case set at P126,000.
In an interview, Quinto clarified her non-involvement in any business transactions with Dermacare, asserting that she was solely a comedienne and not a businessperson.
“Comedienne talaga ako e. Iyun nga ang sabi ko, ako po ay isang komedyante, hindi po ako negosyante. Kaya kahit kailan, hindi po ako nagne-ne-go-go-gosyo, kaya wala po akong negosyo at kinalaman sa ganyan (As I always tell people, I’m a comedian, not a businesswoman. I’ve never been involved in business, so I have nothing to do with that),” Quinto explained.
Quinto’s legal team has yet to release further details regarding the next steps in addressing the charges.
