Despite still being legally married, Rufa Mae Quinto made it clear that she and her husband Trevor Magallanes have both chosen to move on from their relationship.
In an emotional interview on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda on Friday, the actress and comedienne opened up about their decision to part ways.
“Move on muna, pero we respect each other. Kasi nga masyado nang ano eh — ’di ba para mag-clarity na rin lahat,” she said.
("We’re choosing to move on for now, but we respect each other. It’s really just to bring clarity to everything.")
According to Rufa, there is no ill will between her and Trevor, but the pain of separation is still unavoidable.
("Of course, I love him. He’s my husband, right? He’s still my husband even now. But he doesn’t want to continue anymore, so I’m letting go, too, and I respect that. It would be worse if I kept trying to hold on, don’t you think?")
Despite their separation, mutual respect remains between them, especially for the sake of their daughter, Athena. Rufa assured that their child continues to feel the presence of her father in her life.
Wait lang tayo,” the actress explained.
("That’s your dad, and no one can replace him, right? He’ll always be your daddy. So if he’s not available right now or wants to take a break, that’s okay. Let’s just wait.")
Rufa revealed that they had been dealing with marital problems for some time, but she chose to keep quiet in order to protect her daughter’s emotional well-being.
("I was thinking about my child — how it might affect her, how she might have to adjust or get hurt.")
In previous interviews, Quinto admitted that she and her Filipino-American husband had been experiencing marital challenges, which surfaced publicly amid her involvement in a case involving alleged violations of the Securities Regulation Code (SRC).
