The shear line continues to bring moderate to heavy rainfall over the Bicol and Samar area, prompting floods and class suspensions.

A shear line is a weather system where the cold and warm air meet.

In Legazpi City, Albay, the flood waters reached at least waist deep due to the non-stop heavy rainfall.

In some portions of Sorsogon City, residents needed to use rescue boats to go in and out of their area as flood waters reached at least chest-deep.

As flood water subsided in Sorsogon, thick mud accompanied by trash materials left the city roads.

Camarines Sur Governor Luigi Villafuerte also ordered the suspension of face-to-face classes in all levels in Camarines Sur due to the yellow rainfall warning issued by PAGASA.

“To ensure the safety of learners/students and school personnel from the risks posed by this weather disturbance, face-to-face classes and work in schools at all levels are suspended today, 8 January, until lifted,” the memorandum reads.

PAGASA reported on Monday that the shear line is expected to affect the eastern portion of Southern Luzon.

Weather Specialist Veronica Torres said that aside from the shear line, the northeast monsoon is also affecting the portions of Northern and Central Luzon.

“Northeast monsoon brings cloudy weather conditions over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon,” Torres added.

Earlier today, the temperature in Baguio City dipped to 14.4 °C.

Heavy to intense rainfall is expected to prevail over Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, and Northern Samar until Friday, 10 January.
