CABUGAO, Ilocos Sur — Deogracias "DV" Savellano, former governor, congressman, and current Undersecretary for the Department of Agriculture (DA), passed away at the age of 65 following a lingering illness.
His death was announced on Tuesday in a Facebook post by the National Tobacco Administration, where he served as oversight and presiding official of its Governing Board.
Although no official statement has been released by his family, Vice Governor Ryan Singson, Savellano's son-in-law, confirmed the news to the media.
Sources indicated that Savellano died from an abdominal aneurysm while in Manila.
The unexpected passing has left many Ilocanos shocked and in mourning. Residents described him as energetic and health-conscious throughout his life.
Savellano was married to actress Dina Bonnevie.
In 2019, he served as deputy speaker of the House of Representatives. He also held various positions, including governor, board member, and SK official.
On 31 July 2023, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. appointed him as DA Undersecretary for Livestock.
