‘Cracker’ injuries lower, says DoH

Following the New Year's Eve revelry, the staff at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center are treating those who were injured because of firecrackers.

The Department of Health (DoH) on Wednesday disclosed that firecracker-related cases monitored during the New Year’s Eve of 2024 were 64 percent lower compared to the same period last year.
This comes as the DoH recorded 141 new cases of firecracker-related injuries, bringing the total caseload to 340.
Of the figure, 239 were below 19 years old, while 101 were above 20 years old.
Additionally, 299 were male, while 41 were female.
A total of 202 or 59 percent of the victims used illegal firecrackers, such as boga, 5-star and piccolo.
Meanwhile, 186 or 54.7 percent actively used firecrackers.
The DoH said that the majority of the victims sustained eye injuries, dismemberment of body parts and skin burns.
