Former Ilocos Sur governor turned senatorial aspirant Luis “Chavit” Singson landed among the top 25 candidates in the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted from 12 to 18 December.
The Fourth Quarter 2024 Social Weather Survey focused on voter preferences for the 2025 senatorial elections, presenting respondents with a list of 70 names representing a diverse range of political affiliations and independents.
“Here is a list of candidates for Senator of the Philippines. If the elections were held today, whom would you most probably vote for. You can pick up to 12 names,” SWS told respondents.
Singson garnered a nine-percent voter preference, placing him among the top 25 candidates. His rating stood out as he surpassed several well-known figures, including Representative Rodante Marcoleta and other former and current public figures.
With the slogan “May Isang Salita,” Singson continues to emphasize integrity and collaboration, positioning himself as a unifying figure in the upcoming elections.
Despite his modest polling numbers, the results reflect a loyal base of supporters that could drive his campaign forward as election day approaches.
The Senate race brings to mind the 2022 elections, where action star Robin Padilla, with no prior political experience, shocked the nation by securing the top spot in the senatorial race.
Partial unofficial results at the time showed Padilla, then 52, surpassing seasoned politicians like Antique Rep. Loren Legarda and broadcaster Raffy Tulfo, who had been leading pre-election surveys.
Analysts attributed Padilla’s unexpected rise to several factors, including his celebrity status, relatable messaging, and his connection with the masses.
Leading the latest survey is Erwin Tulfo, who captured 45 percent of respondents’ votes, followed by Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. with 33 percent.
The latest SWS survey highlighted the strong performances of veteran politicians and media personalities, emphasizing Filipinos’ preference for familiar names.
