Governor Joet S. Garcia expressed optimism that the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge Project (BCIB Project), once completed, will open avenues for economic growth, tourism, and job opportunities in Bataan.

Briefing reporters, Gov. Garcia emphasized that the BCIB project is a game-changer that could transform Bataan into a major tourism destination, with millions of passengers and motorists expected to use the bridge.

A brainchild of former governor and now Congressman Abet S. Garcia, the BCIB is expected to boost economic development and alleviate Metro Manila’s traffic congestion.

Cong. Garcia cited studies showing that approximately five million vehicles will pass through the BCIB annually.

He added that the first and second phases of the project were bid out on 2 July.

The Garcias noted that the BCIB would enhance road travel efficiency in Bataan, Cavite, and the National Capital Region.

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), which approved the project’s funding, described the BCIB as a 32.15-kilometer fixed crossing over Manila Bay. It will consist of:

  1. Two climate-resilient cable-stayed navigation bridges with main spans of 900 and 400 meters connecting Mariveles, Bataan, to Naic, Cavite.

  2. 24 kilometers of marine viaducts.

  3. Eight kilometers of approach roads.

The bridge will also feature a U-turn facility near Corregidor Island for future connections. Additionally, the project includes a capacity-building program to strengthen government capabilities in operation, maintenance, and management of the BCIB and other complex infrastructure projects.

To boost tourism, a tourist center and supporting facilities will be constructed at the northern approach of the bridge in Bataan Province, enhancing access to Corregidor Island.

The BCIB Project will be financed in three tranches, according to the AIIB.
