President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has issued presidential proclamations expanding two existing economic zones in Cavite and Batangas and establishing a new information technology park in Negros Oriental, Malacañang announced Monday.
The directives, signed 6 July by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto, add to the more than 430 operating economic zones currently managed by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), which host thousands of registered locator companies nationwide.
Under Proclamation No. 1337, Marcos designated several parcels of land totaling approximately 331,348 square meters in the villages of Punta I and Sahud-Ulan in Tanza, Cavite, to be included in the Suntrust Ecotown Tanza-Special Economic Zone.
The expansion was approved under the Special Economic Zone Act of 1995 upon the recommendation of the PEZA board of directors.
Marcos also issued Proclamation No. 1338, which adds an aggregate area of roughly 308,065 square meters to the Light Industry & Science Park IV-Special Economic Zone. The land is located in the villages of Luta Sur and San Fernando in Malvar, Batangas.
Meanwhile, Proclamation No. 1340 created the Robinsons Dumaguete I.T. Park, a new special economic zone designated for information technology.
The 60,000-square-meter zone is located at the Dumaguete Business Park in Calindagan, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
According to the decree, the new IT park will be governed by the Special Economic Zone Act and the National Internal Revenue Code, as amended by the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises to Maximize Opportunities for Reinvigorating the Economy Act
