All six congressmen representing Manila have filed a resolution urging the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) and the Unified Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST) to reimburse Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) for tuition increases implemented in accordance with government regulations.
House Resolution 2126 calls on CHEd and UniFAST to reimburse PLM based on the university’s new tuition rates, which increased from P293 to P1,200 per unit starting in the Academic Year 2023-2024.
The Manila representatives argue that PLM has fully complied with the provisions of Republic Act 10931, the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education Act of 2014, and CHEd Memorandum Order 3, series of 2012, regarding tuition fees.
“Nearly two school years are about to pass. We and PLM have waited long enough for action from CHEd and UniFAST,” said Manila Second District Representative Rolando Valeriano.
“This is why all six Manila congressmen filed our resolution now. We expect CHEd and UniFAST to heed our call on behalf of the 13,000 students and 600 personnel of PLM,” he added.
Valeriano stressed that the resolution aims to ensure that PLM receives the necessary financial support to continue providing quality education to its students.
