President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. administered the oath of 36 newly promoted generals at Malacañan Palace on Wednesday, urging them to lead the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) with honor, integrity, and commitment to duty.
“As our senior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, I enjoin you to lead with honor, serve with integrity, and inspire others with your example,” Marcos said in his address, emphasizing service to the Constitution and the Filipino people.
Marcos praised their achievements, stating their promotions reflected expertise, discipline, and dedication to the nation's welfare. However, he stressed that true service is measured not by rank but by fulfilling duty and ensuring the nation's safety and security.
He also acknowledged the AFP's significant milestones, including partnerships with allied nations, such as the launch of the Combined Coordination Center with the United States Indo-Pacific Command at Camp Aguinaldo. He hailed it as a step forward in modernization and interoperability under the Mutual Defense Board Concept Plan.
Marcos highlighted the AFP’s Joint Exercise "DAGIT-PA" (Dagat-Langit-Lupa) for enhancing tactics and coordination, as well as its disaster response efforts during the onslaught of six typhoons.
“You have been instrumental in providing humanitarian assistance and disaster response during some of our darkest hours,” he said, noting the AFP’s swift action during Severe Tropical Storms "Kristine" and "Nika," and Super Typhoons "Leon" and "Pepito".
The Commander-in-Chief urged the AFP to remain vigilant against threats to peace and to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty across land, seas, skies, and cyberspace. He emphasized upholding international maritime laws and fostering regional cooperation for stability.
“Diplomacy rooted in strong legal foundations is our most effective instrument in navigating these endeavors,” he added.
Marcos assured continued government support for AFP modernization and its mission to protect the country’s sovereignty.
“No matter how important your sworn duty is; no matter how many challenges you must face; we assure you that the entire nation is with you — praying for your safety, supporting your steps, and hoping that you will serve our country faithfully.” he said.
