The planned construction of a new Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) at Caticlan Airport, to be constructed by Megawide Construction Corp., is expected to significantly improve the travel experience for tourists visiting Boracay Island.
In a stock exchange report on Thursday, Megawide said it secured a deal to design and construct the new PTB, which it plans to start before the end of the year.
The project is commissioned by Trans Aire Development Holdings Corp. (TADHC), a subsidiary of San Miguel Corporation's (SMC) infrastructure arm.
“This will be another exciting opportunity for Megawide – to be able to work with one of the country’s largest and oldest conglomerates, SMC, and help realize its vision of a world-class facility at Caticlan Airport,” said Megawide CEO and Chairman Edgar Saavedra.
“We hope to impart our engineering excellence and be able to integrate our sustainable methodologies into this landmark development,” he added.
SMC, through SMC Infrastructure, is actively pursuing major airport developments nationwide.
In addition to the Caticlan Airport project, the conglomerate is building the New Manila International Airport in Bulakan, Bulacan, and overseeing the rehabilitation of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila.
“Our search for a partner-contractor who shares our vision of modernizing airports in the country has concluded with our partnership with Megawide,” said Ramon S. Ang, chairman and CEO of SMC.
“We believe that Megawide’s track record of building key infrastructure through efficient and sustainable practices will help us deliver a world-class facility within our committed deadline,” he added.
Ang previously expressed plans to complete the new PTB in “less than three years” to boost tourism in Boracay and nearby areas.
Megawide, recognized for its vertically integrated engineering, procurement, and construction operations and its Precast and Construction Solutions business, is expected to employ efficient and environmentally friendly processes throughout the project.
