Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, plans to nearly double the capacity of the Bohol-Panglao International Airport under a P4.53-billion concession agreement with the government.
The company announced on Wednesday that it will implement operational upgrades and investments to raise the airport’s capacity to 2.5 million passengers per annum (mppa) within the first two years of taking over operations, up from the current 2 mppa.
By 2030, further expansions will increase capacity to 3.9 mppa. These upgrades aim to enhance passenger experience, improve efficiency, and bolster safety and security, aligning with AIC’s goal of developing globally competitive airports that reflect the best of the Philippines.
World-class infrastructure
“Our commitment to modernizing the Bohol-Panglao International Airport underscores our vision of creating world-class infrastructure that enables progress in key growth areas of the Philippines,” Aboitiz InfraCapital president and CEO Cosette V. Canilao said.
“This project is not just about upgrading facilities but also about boosting economic opportunities, enhancing tourism, and improving connectivity in the Visayas region, and we are excited to be a part of this initiative,” she added.
AIC received the notice of award for the project from the Department of Transportation and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines on 18 November.
Concession agreement
The concession agreement is expected to be officially signed by the end of 2024, and upgrades will begin in 2025.
The Bohol-Panglao International Airport is the second successful airport public-private partnership project this year through an unsolicited bid, following the Laguindingan International Airport deal.
AIC also operates the Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, the country’s second-busiest airport.
