The Philippine National Police in Southern Luzon reported that one person was killed while two others were injured in what was described by witnesses as an alleged landslide in Liliw town, Laguna on Thursday afternoon.
In a report forwarded by Area Police Command-Southern Luzon chief Lt. Gen. Rhoderick Armamento, the incident took place around 5 p.m. at Purok 6, Barangay Calumpang, Liliw around 4:30 p.m.
“The victims were constructing the rip rap stones at the river dam, the soil and rocks from the river cliff eroded due to continuous raining which accidentally buried them causing the untimely death of one construction worker identified as Vijay Estanda Salisod, 36 years old, and resident of Barangay Calumpang, Liliw, Laguna,” Armamento said.
Meanwhile, two of Salisod’s companions — who were also residents of the area — were severely injured in the incident and identified as Joel Apostol Basco and Eduardo de Chavez dela Cueva.
“The rescued victims were immediately brought to Nagcarlan District Hospital for medical treatment,” Armamento said.
He added that he has instructed the police chief of Liliw to deploy personnel to ensure that no unauthorized personnel will enter the mishap area.
