5k plus passengers stranded in Manila Port due to ‘Kabayan’

More than 5,000 passengers are now stranded at the Manila North Port Passenger Terminal due to Tropical Storm Kabayan.
In his inspection at the said port on Monday morning, Coast Guard Public Affairs Service Acting Commander, CG Rear Admiral Armando Balilo said a total of 5,400 are currently barred from sailing, as 2GO vessels were halted to journey to the cities of Cebu, Butuan, Tagbilaran, and Cagayan de Oro.
In its 11 a.m. bulletin, PAG-ASA said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was hoisted over more than 30 areas, however, it said that "Kabayan" had already weakened into a tropical depression on Monday morning after making landfall in Davao Oriental.
For her part, Philippine Ports Authority spokesperson Eunice Samonte said some passengers were allowed to embark on their respective vessels for passengers to have comfort while waiting for their vessels to sail.
The PPA also distributed "lugaw" (porridge) which is always done by the PPA when there are stranded passengers.
In a separate press conference on Monday afternoon, Sharon Ngo, business unit head of Solutions of 2GO confirmed that their four vessels are currently barred from sailing in various areas in the Visayas and Mindanao because of the tropical storm warning.
"Our fully booked vessels that were suspended to sail due to Typhoon Kabayan were set to sail last Sunday. Unfortunately, due to the typhoon, their sailing was suspended by the PCG. The passengers are well taken care of and they are comfortable right now," she Ngo said, adding that the vessels would sail immediately if the storm signal warning was lifted by authorities.
Throughout the country, the PCG said that as of noon on Monday, they have monitored 2,461 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers, 39 vessels, 754 rolling cargoes and two motorbancas that are stranded, while 51 vessels and 3 motorbancas taking shelter in Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Northeastern Mindanao due to 'Kabayan.'
