Handog ng Pangulo event distributes 20 solar-powered irrigation projects to Nueva Ecija farmers

The Handog ng Pangulo: Serbisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat became the venue for the distribution of 20 Solar-Powered Pump Irrigation Projects (SPIPs) for the Irrigators’ Associations (IAs) at the Nueva Ecija Coliseum in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija on 14 September 2026.
The said initiative aims to strengthen the irrigation system of the agricultural sector in Nueva Ecija, as well as contiguous areas. The National Irrigation Administration–Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation Systems (NIA-UPRIIS) led the distribution of these projects.
Cabinet Secretary Benjamin C. Abalos Jr., Undersecretary for Economic Affairs Erwin D. Sta. Ana, and Nueva Ecija Governor Aurelio M. Umali led the turnover ceremony during the Handog ng Pangulo: Serbisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat event to celebrate the 69th birthday of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
NIA-UPRIIS Acting Department Manager Engr. Alvin L. Manuel led the agency and formally turned over the 20 SPIPs to the beneficiary IAs of various division offices. The said SPIPs will greatly benefit 300 farmers and their families in providing water to 439 hectares of farmlands.
The said SPIPs are part of the NIA program under Administrator Engr. Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen’s leadership to boost the irrigation system and support the production of farmers by using solar-powered technology. The SPIPs will provide an efficient and dependable alternative method of irrigation.
Nueva Ecija's agricultural lands are primarily irrigated by the National Irrigation Administration - Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-UPRIIS), anchored by the Pantabangan Dam.
Major irrigation infrastructures include the Pantabangan Dam that serves as the primary water source, managing extensive network canals across Central Luzon; the Talavera River SDC Siphon, which restored irrigation services to nearly 40,000 hectares of farmland, benefiting over 26,000 farmers.
Also a major irrigation infrastructure is the Peñaranda River Irrigation System (PenRIS) that supplies water to over 25,000 hectares of agricultural land.
