Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos reported over the weekend that the Liga ng mga Barangay chapter elections nationwide pushed through and are generally peaceful.
Earlier, the Liga issued LnB Memorandum Circular Nos. 2023-001 and 002 require the full payment of membership dues on or before 31 August 2023, before they can participate in the chapter elections.
However, Abalos said that he immediately talked with the LnB which prompted the latter to issue LnB MC 2023-10 removing the requirement of paying membership dues as a prerequisite for participation in the elections.
In an Advisory dated 14 December, Abalos said Liga chapters need only to update their Liga membership dues before they can participate in the provincial, regional, and national elections next year.
