DAVAO CITY — A member of the New People's Army (NPA) was killed in an encounter with the troops of the 67th Infantry Battalion (67IB) at Sitio Latay, Barangay Marfil in Rosario, Agusan Del Sur, on 18 November, the 10th Infantry Division (10ID) said Tuesday.

Maj. Mark Anthony Tito, the 10ID spokesperson said the killed NPA member, who has two aliases identified as Jerby and Janjalani, belongs to Regional Sentro De Grabibad of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Commitee (RSDG, NEMRC).

He added that found in Jerby's possession were one R4 Carbine, one cell phone, and a backpack with personal belongings.

"The 67IB, in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Rosario, already informed the family and took care of the remains of Jerby," Tito added.

Meanwhile, BGen. Allan Hambala, the 10ID commander, extended his sincerest condolences to the bereaved family of Jerby and called on the remaining NPA in Agusan Del Sur to peacefully surrender.

"It is truly tragic to witness our fellow Filipino people deceived by the NPA, lured into participating in a senseless revolution. It is disheartening, especially considering that many of their surrendered comrades now recognize that true development and social justice can only be attained through peace," he added.
