Another Pinoy killed in Israel-Hamas war — DFA

Another Filipino was killed in the ongoing armed conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Sunni-Islamic extremist Hamas, the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed Thursday.

"I regret to inform the nation that we have received confirmation from the Israeli government of another Filipino casualty in Israel," DFA Secretary Enrique Manalo said in a tweet.

Manalo said the victim's family was informed about the tragic death of their loved one and asked to remain anonymous.

"But we have assured the family of the Government's full support and assistance," he stressed.

Following the surprise deadly attack by Hamas in Israel on 7 October, the number of Filipinos killed in the Israel-Hamas war has now climbed to four.

The DFA, however, made no mention of whether the fourth casualty was one of the three Filipinos who are still accounted for.

There are almost 30,000 Filipinos who consider Israel their second home. Most of them work in the caregiving, hospitality, engineering, and healthcare industries.

Meanwhile, there are 135 Filipinos in the Hamas-controlled Gaza.

Many of them are now stranded in the Rafah border crossing, the only exit to the war-torn Gaza Strip.

More than 1,400 Israelis have reportedly been killed since the surprise attack of Hamas in Israel while the Health Ministry of Palestine reported that at least 2,778 people have been killed and 9,700 wounded in Gaza.
