No traces of an oil spill were found in the pristine waters of Coron, Palawan after the grounding of the landing craft tank Lady Alina on Friday.
According to the Philippine Coast Guard, the vessel was successfully maneuvered away from the shallow waters off Coron Island near Cadis Point in Palawan.
The PCG team inspected the incident area for traces of an oil spill but did not find any.
"The landing craft tank remains temporarily anchored in the vicinity waters off Coron Island while the PCG, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and Palawan Council for Sustainable Development conduct an area assessment," the PCG said.
Based on the initial investigation of the PCG, the LCT Lady Alina ran aground due to a miscalculation by the duty lookout who was hampered by the zero visibility.
The crew of the landing craft tank said they did not see the reef that they hit on their Global Positioning System. The 17 crew members of the vessel were rescued.
PCG spokesperson, Rear Admiral Armand Balilo said all the crew members "were in good physical condition."
