President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered an increase in corn import allocations to help stabilize hog and poultry feed prices amid the adverse effects of the Super El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to intensify in the first quarter of 2027.

Palace press officer and Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said during a briefing in Malaybalay, Bukidnon, on Thursday that Marcos had ordered the increase in the Minimum Access Volume for imported corn from 220,000 metric tons to 500,000 metric tons for 2026 under Executive Order 129.

“The increase is intended to address the anticipated shortage in corn supply, stabilize the price of feeds for livestock and poultry, and prevent the increase in the price of pork and poultry products,” she said.
