SAMAL, Bataan — A former communist insurgent who once operated across Bataan and Zambales has voluntarily surrendered to authorities, turning over a high-explosive grenade as part of his return to the fold of the law, Bataan police reported Tuesday.
Known as "Ka Darwin," he was an active member of the Komiteng Tagapagpaganap-Sangay ng Partido sa Platun (KT-SPP) under the Lino Blas Command. He formally abandoned the armed conflict and surrendered one M79 40mm high-explosive grenade with a detonating cord to joint security forces.
The surrender on October 19 came through coordinated efforts led by the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, supported by police, military, and intelligence units in Central Luzon.
“This milestone underscores the growing momentum of our peace and security campaign in the region,” said PBGen Jess B. Mendez, PRO 3 Regional Director and RTF-ELCAC 3 Chair.
“With sustained community engagement and whole-of-nation efforts, more former rebels are choosing the path of peace. We remain committed to securing our communities and helping every individual reintegrate into productive, peaceful lives," he added.
