DAVAO CITY — A medalist in the recent 20th Asian Games and a national team mentor will hold a two-day kata and kumite seminar this weekend at the Association for the Advancement of Karatedo (AAK) Davao Dojo here.

Rica Torres-Foronda, who secured a bronze medal in the women’s team kata event of the Asian Games in Nagoya last week, will join national coach Sonny Montalvo in presiding over a seminar for karate practitioners in the province.

“It’s an honor to have our Asian Games bronze medalist Rica Torres-Foronda here in Davao City along with sensei Sonny Montalvo in our special seminar this weekend,” said Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation Inc. Region XI director and AAK Davao chief instructor Rommel Tan.

“They can truly inspire the kids after recent success during the Asian Games.”

Aside from winning a bronze medal in the team kata event of the Asian Games together with Samantha Veguillas and Ysabielle Arrogante, Torres-Foronda also bagged a silver medal in the women’s senior kata and bronze in the Women’s team kata in the 13th Southeast Asian Karatedo Federation Championships in Vietnam.

The seminar, which will start at 8 a.m., will be exclusive to AAK members only, mostly from Cagayan de Oro, General Santos City and Davao City.
