Police forces across northern Metro Manila and the capital city placed their units on full security alert Friday ahead of planned demonstrations marking the 54th anniversary of the declaration of martial law.

The Northern Police District (NPD) ordered all personnel across Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela to report for heightened security operations running through Monday.

In Caloocan, police anticipate demonstration rallies near the Bonifacio Monument, a traditional gathering site for activist groups. Authorities said specific traffic rerouting plans for the area will be announced as conditions warrant.

Meantime, the Manila Police District (MPD) also raised its operational status to full alert, establishing anti-riot contingents along major corridors and preparing road closures near primary government installations.

Under the capital’s security layout, anti-riot personnel will secure J.P. Laurel Street and the Mendiola Bridge.

Police plan to close the Ayala Bridge entirely to vehicular traffic to secure the perimeter surrounding Malacañang Palace.

Rally organizers will be permitted to march only as far as C.M. Recto Avenue near the University of the East, where police will establish a hard perimeter and close the road to traffic.

Traffic authorities issued specific rerouting directives around Liwasang Bonifacio, requiring northbound vehicles traveling along P. Burgos Avenue attempting to access Magallanes Drive to proceed straight over Jones Bridge toward their destinations.

Vehicles originating from McArthur Bridge attempting to reach Magallanes Drive must proceed straight onto the southbound lanes of P. Burgos Avenue instead.

City officials in Manila advised drivers to avoid Legarda Street, Ayala Boulevard, C.M. Recto Avenue and Morayta Street to avoid severe traffic delays caused by marching protesters.
