The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will tap Meta to identify the individuals behind about 30 social media accounts accused of mocking the disability and sexual orientation of Akbayan Rep. Percival Cendaña.

NBI director Melvin Matibag said the bureau’s Cybercrime Division was already acting on Cendaña’s complaint, which he filed Tuesday.

Matibag said the NBI would seek Meta’s assistance in identifying those behind the accounts because the bureau has a direct line with the social media company for such requests.

He said the arrangement was among the commitments made by Meta during a recent visit to Singapore by Matibag and other NBI officials, when the company agreed to provide documents requested by the bureau.

Cendaña, a stroke survivor and openly gay lawmaker, sought the NBI’s help in investigating about 30 accounts, including those attributed to Cho Moreno, MP Miko Pogay and Kiffy Chu. He said the accounts had posted content that could violate the Magna Carta of Disabled Persons and the Safe Spaces Act.
