Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) chairperson and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco said Thursday that the agency's regulatory framework must adapt to address emerging challenges and the evolving gaming landscape.

Speaking at The Regulators Forum at Newport World Resorts in Pasay City, Tengco emphasized the need to constantly evaluate PAGCOR's oversight role amid industry growth.

Tengco cited that regulatory strength depends on responding to real-world conditions, protecting the public, and maintaining a stable environment for legitimate operators.

As part of institutional reforms, he cited the planned separation of PAGCOR's regulatory and casino operating functions to establish clear industry standards.

The proposal to split PAGCOR's dual roles remains under review by the Governance Commission for Government-Owned or Controlled Corporations.

Following the commission's evaluation, the proposal will go to the Office of the President, where President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. may issue an executive order to formalize the separation.

In a separate development, PAGCOR received a donation of 3,500 wheelchairs Wednesday from the SiGMA Foundation for distribution to beneficiaries nationwide.

The ceremonial handover took place at the PAGCOR Corporate Office in Pasay City, attended by Tengco and SiGMA Asia managing director Neil Shih.

Tengco thanked the foundation, noting that the equipment will support PAGCOR's corporate social responsibility programs in coordination with local government units.

Meantime, Shih said the donation demonstrates the value of public-private collaboration in serving local communities.

The SiGMA Foundation operates as the philanthropic arm of the SiGMA Group, an international events and media company specializing in gaming, technology, and digital health.
