Police arrested a 21-year-old motorcycle rider who allegedly struck a police officer while attempting to evade a checkpoint in Barangay Fortune, Marikina City.
The suspect, identified by police as MJ, faces charges of direct assault and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.
The incident occurred around 2:35 a.m. along Fortune Avenue outside a gasoline station.
According to initial investigations, officers from Fortune Police Sub-Station 7 were operating an anti-criminality checkpoint when they signaled an approaching motorcycle to stop because the passenger was not wearing a safety helmet.
Police said the driver ignored signals and accelerated.
