Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center has provided seven free angioplasties and 56 free angiograms to qualified patients in its first year of operating its Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said.

Domagoso congratulated hospital officials as the cardiac laboratory marked its first anniversary, having opened 8 September 2025.

The announcement followed the successful completion of the hospital’s seventh free angioplasty, performed on a 70-year-old male resident of Manila.

Domagoso noted that the procedure typically costs about P975,000 in private hospitals, where prices can range between P800,000 and P1.5 million.

“How much did our patient pay today? Zero. Literally zero. Nothing was paid, thanks to the city’s taxpayers,” Domagoso said.

Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to open blocked or narrowed coronary arteries without requiring open-heart surgery, allowing most patients to recover within days.

To maintain operations and equipment, Domagoso said the Manila city government has allocated nearly P25 million in standby funds for equipment acquisition and maintenance.

“Angioplasty is completely free in our public hospital, and that will continue,” Domagoso added.

The mayor commended the medical team behind the program, led by Manila City Health officer Dr. Grace Padilla, alongside the hospital’s interventional cardiologists, anesthesiologists, nurses and radiologic technologists.
