A 21-year-old motorcycle rider was arrested by the police after he allegedly rammed a police officer while attempting to evade a police checkpoint in Barangay Fortune, Marikina City, in the early hours of 20 August 2026.
The suspect, identified as MJ, now faces charges for direct assault and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority following the incident that occurred at around 2:35 a.m. along Fortune Avenue in front of a gasoline station in Barangay Fortune.
Investigation disclosed that police personnel from Fortune Police Sub-Station 7 were conducting an anti-criminality checkpoint when they spotted an approaching motorcycle carrying a back rider without a safety helmet. As officers attempted to stop the motorcycle for inspection and verification, the rider allegedly ignored police signals and accelerated away.
During the attempt to flee, the suspect reportedly struck a police officer with his motorcycle, causing the officer to fall to the ground and sustain injuries. Responding officers immediately pursued the fleeing rider, leading to his arrest shortly after the incident.
Recovered from the suspect was a white Suzuki Samurai 155 motorcycle, which was used during the commission of the offense. The suspect was issued traffic citation tickets for reckless driving and riding without a safety helmet.
The injured officer was promptly transported by Marikina City Rescue 161 personnel to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center for medical treatment.
The arrested suspect is currently under police custody while awaiting a commitment order from the court.
