A new fruit called Cuimi, developed by Chinese agriculturists, will hit the traditional and online market for the first time next month.
As the world’s first longan-lychee hybrid, Cuimi has the shape and flavor of longan with an outer skin like that of the lychee, The Standard (TS) reported.
The fruit is sweeter, more fragrant and crisper than standard longans, while having the smooth, seedless-like texture of a lychee, according to TS.
Liu Chengming, whose team of researchers at South China Agricultural University developed Cuimi 16 years ago, told TS that the fruit’s yield is twice that of the traditional longan.
Meanwhile, three burglars stole more than cash from a Hong Kong grocery store they robbed early on 11 August.
A surveillance camera at the shop, located on the ground floor of 61 Yan Hing Street in Tai Po, caught the burglars breaking open its metal gate at around 2 a.m., TS reported.
Footage of the burglary then showed the men in long-sleeved tops and trousers drinking cream soda and eating bananas, according to TS.
After snacking, they took away HK$18,000 in cash, multiple car keys and several bottles of liquor.
The break-in was discovered by the shopowner when he arrived at 8 a.m. He reported the theft of the money, car, liquor, soda and bananas to police.
