As a fur mom, I am always on the lookout for comfortable places where my furbabies can sleep.

You see, when the lights go out at night, Lexie sleeps beside me on the bed. Boris prefers to sleep near the entrance of the room, keeping guard. And Grogu, the mini poodle, just sleeps.

So, weekends or any day I find myself in a dog store, I look for beds that make the sleep of my babies restful.

I will not lie, but I am particularly attracted to the doggie beds at Bow House (@bowhouse.ph). The designs are modern and comfortable and I always imagine that my doggies will sleep well if they use these beds.

I asked Migi Manalastas, chief “barkitect,” who barked a few answers to me regarding the beds.

“Haha,” he laughed. “We cannot compete with human beds, but we are a close second.”

“Do you test the beds with dogs first before you display the beds?“ I asked further.

“Always. Nothing goes out until real dogs have slept, drooled, zoomed and judged it first,” he replied. “The dogs of our community are the toughest quality control team we could ask for. If they’re not obsessed with a prototype, it goes back to the drawing board.”

I wondered whether there are beds that are more popular than others for their dog panes.

“The Muttress is our runaway favorite, especially for bigger dogs and seniors who need that orthopedic support for their joints,” came the quick reply. “The Snorebox is beloved by the burrowers and the ones who like feeling tucked in and secure. Between the two, we’ve pretty much got every sleeping personality covered.”

As I continued to look at the beds, I had one more question on my mind.

“Are the beds for dogs and cats similar?“ I blurt out.

“At the start, we designed everything for dogs,” Migi shared. “But, in the process, we kept getting messages from customers saying their cat had hijacked the dog bed and refused to give it back. Turns out cats and dogs need the same thing: real support and good rest, plus design that’s easy for humans to live with.”

Difference, I ask.

“The one difference is cats love to hide,” Migi laughed. “So we leaned into that and made the Meow House just for them.”

Before I go, I am informed: “Our dog bed designs come from obsessively watching dogs sleep,” Migi said. “The way they circle and dig before they settle, how some burrow versus the ones who sprawl. Every Bow House design begins with a real behavior we noticed, then we obsess over the details: how much filling to put, fabrics that survive puppyhood and Manila humidity. Our goal is to design a bed that disappears into your home and just work for your dog.”
