The Philippines is no longer an afterthought in international weightlifting.
Albert Ian delos Santos flexed his muscles as he set two new records while winning won three gold medals in the men’s juniors 70-kilogram category in the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent on Monday.
Delos Santos, 19, tallied new Asian and World records in the clean-and-jerk after lifting 180kgs and in the total lift after tallying 321kgs.
The Zamboanga City native also struck gold in the snatch after lifting 141kgs as he is gearing up for the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan from 19 September to 4 October.
His exploits jacked up the Philippines’ total medal tally to 16 golds, six silver and nine bronze medals.
