BI arrests Japanese fugitive at Intramuros office

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a 38-year-old Japanese national at its main office in Intramuros, Manila, on 31 July.
The fugitive was identified as Koizumi Haruki.
The arrest was carried out by members of the BI's Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) in coordination with the Tourist Visa Section (TVS) and Japanese authorities.
The operation stemmed from a report by TVS Chief Raymond Remigio after Koizumi was intercepted while applying for a visa extension at the bureau.
Acting on the information, FSU operatives led by Chief Rendel Ryan Sy immediately verified Koizumi's records and carried out the arrest.
Japanese authorities had earlier informed the BI that Koizumi is the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant for violating Japan's Law on the Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds. Bureau records also confirmed that he had been blacklisted as an undesirable foreign national.
Koizumi was turned over to the BI's holding facility, where he will remain pending deportation proceedings.
