One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of energy firm Meralco, and business process outsourcing company B&M Global Services Manila (B&M) have forged a partnership to bring electricity to an indigenous school.
The Libis Elementary School in Antipolo City, Rizal is the latest beneficiary of OMF’s School Electrification Program with B&M donating solar photovoltaic system to be installed in LES to power its facilities and teaching equipment.
The donation is expected to give some 200 students, who mostly belong to the indigenous Dumagat Remontado tribe, a more engaging and interactive way to learn through reliable access to computers and television sets. Solar power will also make lesson preparation and classroom instruction easier for LES teachers.
B&M executive director Lorie Barredo said the company is glad to be part of a shared undertaking to uplift communities and individuals as well as expand opportunities and help build a brighter future.

OMF president and trustee, and Meralco chief CSR officer Jeffrey Tarayao praised B&M for helping bridge a gap that has real consequences for children, teachers and families.
“More importantly, you are helping ensure that geography does not determine destiny. Together, we can accelerate progress where it is needed most,” Tarayao added.
“For the children of Libis, this power will ensure that geographical isolation and a lack of electricity never stand in the way of their education and their dreams,” Meralco chief operating officer and OMF trustee Engr. Ronnie Aperocho said.

Barredo and Tarayao led the signing of the deed of donation for the solar PV panels, witnessed by Aperocho, OMF trustee and Meralco Distribution Utility Subsidiaries and Strategic Partnerships head Engr. Ferdinand O. Geluz, and B&M CSR team leads Kristine Pasia and Marianne Sandico.
Since 2011, OMF has energized 308 public schools across the country, bringing the benefits of solar electrification directly to more than 92,000 students and over 3,000 teachers.
