  • Serums are no longer just that mysterious tiny bottle sitting on your shelf that you hope works. They are one of the most targeted steps in a skincare routine, designed to deliver powerful ingredients deep into the skin to address specific concerns like dryness, dullness, redness, irritation and signs of aging.

For people with sensitive skin, finding the right serum can feel like a skincare plot twist. Many active ingredients can be too intense, leaving skin feeling irritated instead of improved. This is where a targeted, gentle approach is necessary to help sensitive skin recover from everyday stress.

Sensitive skin doesn’t mean your skin can’t glow

According to dermatologist Dr. Gaile Robredo-Vitas, skin stress is simply a part of living in today’s world. While we can’t completely avoid everyday stressors (because, let’s be real, that would be impossible), the goal is to help prevent them from building up and overwhelming the skin.

“Sometimes a patient will come in sharing that they do have sensitive skin, but they had never before experienced redness. Or they notice that their skin has become dehydrated,” she shares. The good news? Skin is incredibly adaptable. “Our skin is incredibly resilient. It will adjust. It simply needs the right support, given at the right time,” Dr. Robredo-Vitas explains.

That’s where a targeted, day-to-night serum routine comes in.

Start your day with a defense serum. Look for formulas powered by niacinamide and hyaluronic acid to help defend against pollution, stress and blue light while strengthening the skin barrier and keeping your face hydrated, smooth and resilient throughout the day.

Wind down with a recovery serum: When it’s time for bed, your skincare should help your face enter its overnight recovery era. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5, cica and bifida ferment are highly effective for supporting stressed, sensitive skin. They help promote faster skin barrier repair, leaving your complexion looking visibly plumper, smoother and more even when you wake up.
