The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order against a motorcycle rider captured on video stopping in an intersection and directing motorists to run a red traffic light.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao ordered the investigation after video footage surfaced showing the rider using inappropriate language and behaving aggressively toward a driver who refused to follow his directions.
The agency placed the rider on a 90-day preventive suspension and flagged the motorcycle in its system.
LTO said that the rider must surrender his driver’s license to the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division, where he and the registered owner have been summoned to explain the incident.
The rider faces charges for disregarding traffic signs and could be declared an improper person to operate a motor vehicle, which carries potential license suspension or revocation.
“It is unacceptable for a motorist to encourage others to ignore a red traffic light, especially when people are obeying traffic laws,” Lacanilao said in a statement. “Every traffic signal is vital to maintaining road order and preventing accidents.”
The LTO reiterated its call for road discipline, emphasizing that all drivers must obey signals to ensure public safety.
