TEHRAN (AFP) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held separate calls Tuesday with his Omani and Saudi counterparts to discuss the Strait of Hormuz, state television reported.
According to the broadcaster, Araghchi, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan stressed the need to strengthen cooperation and coordinate diplomatic efforts to restore regional stability.
“They stressed the need to strengthen cooperation and advance joint diplomatic efforts to establish stability in the region and eliminate the insecurity imposed on the Strait of Hormuz due to the aggressive actions of the United States,” the state broadcaster said.
Iran has controlled the strategic waterway since the Middle East war began on 28 February, disrupting shipping through one of the world’s busiest maritime routes.
Recent fighting has expanded to include Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, although hostilities have eased in recent days.
